What can you expect?

The basal metabolic rate indicates the energy your body at rest burns. This includes the beating of your heart, organ functions, breathing in and out… Basically the amount of calories your body at rest needs to keep going. Your minimal energy needs.

There are different ways of calculating your rate by considering your sex, age, height and weight. However, the most accurate way is the calorimetry measurement. It measures the amount of O² you breathe in, and the amount of CO² you breathe out during a 10-minute resting period. The results show very clearly how much energy your body actually burns.

With the results of the calorimetry measurement you know exactly the amount of calories you need to support your sport performances. You are able to improve your recovery and avoid setbacks. This way your diet and training schedules are easily optimised.

To ensure accurate measurements, it’s important to be well-prepared: avoid eating for 8-12 hours before the test and drink only water. Refrain from intense physical activity in the 24 hours leading up to the measurement, and steer clear of coffee and alcohol, as these can affect your metabolism. Be aware that some medications may influence your basal metabolic rate. If you’re unsure, consult your doctor for clarification.
